Eastern Carolina Pulled Pork Sliders and Ranch Slaw

I make way more pulled pork recipes than I actually post to this blog. I’m a bit of a pulled pork addict. There’s someething about tender, juice pulled pork that I just love so much. This recipe I just had to share with you though. It’s so good. Usually I make a pork with stock, soda, beer or some type of juice combination, but this time I used wine. I had never thought to use wine before, but this time I thought, why not try and class up a simple pulled pork recipe with some flavorful wine.

But don’t worry, this wine isn’t expensive, it’s Black Box Wine. I know, I know, either you haven’t tried box wine and you’re thinking, WHAT? That’s gross. Or you have tried it, and you’re thinking, hey that’s not a bad idea. Well a week ago I was in the boat of I had never tried box wine, and there was no way in you know where I was going to try it. I’ve had friends that had tried it, and told me it was pretty good, but I didn’t believe them. Really the thought, wine in a box?

Well, I tried it, and it’s pretty good. Not great, but I would say that it’s the best cheap wine (under $10 a bottle) I’ve had. The box is equvilant to about 4 bottles and costs about $6.25 a bottle. Not bad. And if you store it in the fridge, it doesn’t end up tasting like vinegar. It will actually keep for a whole month! And it’s award wining, recognized with 40 Gold Medals and 27 “Best Buys” from Wine Enthusiast.

There’s several different varieties of red and white wines in the large box size. They even have a cute small box size that’s single serve. It’s perfect for summer tailgating, camping, and beach days.

For this recipe, I used one of the small boxes of Moscato wine. It is a medium-bodied white wine with peach, apricot and sweet floral notes. It provides a beautiful fruity, sweet flavor to this pork recipe, without the addition of added sugar.

After adding the wine and seasonings to the slow cooker, I just turned it to low and waited for the pork to fall to pieces. For the sauce, I used a an Eastern Carolina style sauce. Now this is the type of sauce that people either love or hate, much like box wine. It’s a very vinegary and spicy sauce used just as a compliment to the pork. It’s mine and my husband’s absolute favorite. I could eat this all day every day from now until forever.

For the slaw, I made a simple ranch style using ranch dressing, lemon juice and vinegar. It’s pretty simple, but so good, and a perfect compliment to these sliders. Serve these sliders with your favorite red or white wine and enjoy!
