10 Things to Do After Dinner

Staying active with your family isn’t always easy. It’s a struggle for our family for sure. Our kids love their devices and playing electronic games, and the real problem is, so do we. My husband and I are at the age that we also grew up with electronic games and love to play them too!

Everyday after dinner I make an effort to do something fun and active with the kids. This doesn’t take much planning. A few years ago I was over planning our activities and honestly we were only doing active things on the weekend, but it’s so important to keep moving everyday, especially for kids.

So now everyday after dinner we do something fun, even if it’s as simple as chasing each other around the backyard. Here’s my go-to list of fun and easy things you can do after dinner instead of watching T.V. or playing electronic games.

  1. Ride Bikes – Riding bikes is one of my favorite things to do with the kids. I strap my daughter in behind me and my son is big enough now to keep up with us on his own bike. Sometimes we just ride around the block, other times we get around the whole neighborhood a few times.
  2. Play Tag – Playing tag has got to be one of my favorite things to do with the kids. We play it in the backyard around the playhouse, or we go to our neighborhood park and run around. It’s a great way to get everyone running around and giggling fast.
  3. Go swimming – I know lots of people have backyard pools they aren’t utilizing nearly enough. We live in Florida and I have a heated pool we should be enjoying everyday, but in all honestly it gets used maybe once a week. If you have a pool use it! If you don’t and it’s warm, chase each other with the water hose or run through the sprinklers. You’ve got to give the kids a bath anyway, just have some fun!
  4. Play Frisbee – Playing Frisbee can be so much fun for kids and adults! We have a chocolate lab that thinks it’s his professional job to play Frisbee and fetch. Sometimes we love to just play monkey in the middle with him with a Frisbee in the yard, and sometimes in the pool too. We try to outrun, or outswim, him for the Frisbee, and it turns into one seriously competitive game.
  5. Treasure hunt – You know how you hide Easter eggs for the kids once a year and it’s the most fun thing ever? Well why not do a little treasure hunt with small toys or coins anytime of the year. You can just hide things in the backyard, or around the house. You could even make it into a scavenger hunt with a list of clues, or make a treasure map. It will be a great opportunity for the kids to learn how to read a map or interpret those fun scavenger hunt clues!
  6. Go for a walk – When you don’t know what else to do, just go for a walk. I love just walking around the neighborhood with the family. It’s a great way to talk about our day in a peaceful way and we can catch up when things get really busy.
  7. Play catch with the baseball – Time to pull out that old catcher’s mitt and have some fun! Playing baseball is the all American past time and is super fun! If you don’t have a baseball and glove, just use any old ball and play catch in the yard, or in the pool and don’t forget to include the dog. You know he needs some exercise too!
  8. Play basketball – So many people in my neighborhood have basketball hoops that rarely get used. I’ve got one too that doesn’t see enough action. But remember how fun it is to play horse! Let’s get out there and play some hoops!
  9. Hide and go seek – So it’s raining outside, or it’s too cold, but that’s no reason to lounge around after dinner. Get a good game of hide and go seek going! Get creative and try and fool family members. My husband and son have gotten the best places, we’ve looked for them forever and actually had to give up and ask them to come out.
  10. Jump rope – This is so much fun for kids. My son even has a kangaroo club at his school, which you have to do so many jumps in a row without messing up to qualify for. The number of jumps increases every year and this year it’s 45, so he’s always trying to see just how much he can jump. It’s so much fun and the best exercise for adults to make it competitive too.

Part of living a healthy lifestyle is also having a healthy diet. And while we strive to eat as healthy as possible, we don’t always get the recommended allowances for all our vitamins and nutrients everyday. That’s why I always have good quality supplements for everyone in the family. My favorite for my son are these Nature Made® Kids First® Gummies.

My son takes Nature Made® Kids First® Multivitamin with Omega-3, and also the Nature Made® Kids First® Vitamin D3. And even though we live in the sunshine state, I know we could use more Vitamin D3. It helps support healthy bone and tooth development.† I feel it is such an important vitamin for little kids!

Nature Made® Kids First® Gummies are such an easy and tasty way for kids to take supplements. Your kids will love the great natural tasting flavor of these gummies and they will make a great start to a healthy and tasty routine. They contain no preservatives or yeast and are gluten free. Keep in mind though they are only for children that over 4 years of age.

I am by no means an “expert” on vitamins and supplements, these are just my honest opinions. But I feel that taking vitamins helps me live a more active lifestyle.
