I’ve been head over heals about fried avocados after discovering them some time last year on some of my favorite food blogs. We love avocados in my family, so frying up one of our favorite treats came natural. I knew the next logical step for my fried avocado slices would be to put them into a soft taco. I have been thinking through this recipe for several months, and finally decided to give it a whirl yesterday.
Obviously we love avocados in my family, not just because they are healthy, but because they taste so good too. I like to replace mayonnaise on sandwiches with avocados and even replace the fat in some baked goods with avocados like with these brownies. Avocados were even my son’s first solid food, and he still loves them just as much today as he did then.

I downloaded this beautiful avocado photo from their Facebook page. I just love it.
They even have some blog badges. This one is really cute too.

And now back to these beer battered fried avocado tacos. I hope the photos have grabbed your attention. I started by adding a simple corn salsa to the tortilla. I combined corn, red and green peppers, red onion, cilantro and fresh lime juice to make a simple complimentary salsa for my avocados.
Then after frying my avocado slices in a spicy beer batter, I drizzled a spicy mayonnaise on top consisting of fresh cilantro, lime juice, a serrano pepper and mayonnaise. The sauce gave a nice spicy kick to the creamy delicately flavored avocados.
Yield: Serves 4
For the avocados:
2 hass avocados
1 cup flour
1 cup beer
1 teaspoon hot sauce (I used sriracha)
For the corn salsa:
1 cup corn
1 medium green bell pepper, diced
1 medium red bell pepper, diced
1/2 medium red onion, diced
a large bunch of cilantro, roughly chopped
the juice of 1 lime
salt and pepper to taste
For the spicy mayonnaise:
1/2 cup mayonnaise
a large bunch cilantro
the juice of 2 limes
1 jalapeno or serrano pepper
Other ingredients:
4 - 6 cups oil for frying
flour or corn tortillas
Preheat oil for frying to 375°. Combine flour, beer and hot sauce in a large bowl. Whisk well and set aside.
Combine all ingredients for corn salsa and set aside.
Combine all ingredients for spicy mayonnaise in a food processor and blend until cilantro is very fine. Set aside.
Dip avocado slices in batter and drop in hot oil to fry. Fry at 375° for 2 - 3 minutes, turning once. Avocados should be golden brown.
Serve corn salsa in tortillas topped with fried avocados and spicy mayonnaise.
