I’ve recently discovered the joy of sugar scrubs. Over the past year I’ve had more and more problems with dry skin. Mainly because of our pool and hot tub. The chemicals really strip your skin, leaving it dry, scratchy and just plain uncomfortable.
I’ve tried the best of the best creams, but nothing seemed to really relive the itch and tightness until I started using sugar scrub. Someone sent me a wonderful citrus sugar scrub that was amazing, Unfortunately I ran out of the scrub in a week, and when I went to check the price I was shocked, so I decided to make my own for a fraction of the price.
So for my first sugar scrub experiment, I decided to use my favorite scents, coconut and citrus. I started with organic coconut oil and then added just regular old sugar. For the citrus scent, I added the zest of an orange and a lemon. However, you can add any citrus combination you like. I also added some vanilla extract for even more sweet fragrance.
Yield: Makes 1 jar
1 cup coconut oil
2 cups sugar
the zest of 1 orange
the zest of 1 lemon
1 teaspoon vanilla
Combine all ingredients in a mixing bowl. Store in jars or plastic storage containers until ready to use.
