This post brought to you by ALPO® Brand Dog Food . All opinions are 100% mine.
It’s been a while since my last update about our family dog, Coco. He’s now 3, almost 4 years old! He still loves to play in the yard, can’t get enough of the pool and is just overall a sweet boy. He also still can’t come to terms that he’s not acutally a 10 lb lap dog. Now at close to 100lbs, he’s a little too much to cuddle with on the couch. But that never stops him from trying.
Since he’s such an important part of our family, I like to spoil him with treats and scraps. But because he’s not as skinny as our vet wants, I’ve had to seriously cut back on his scraps and find other, more nutritious ways to spoil him, like these little homemade dog treats.
Now when it comes to baking, you know I lik eto mtake every shortcut I can. So for these dog treats, I made a semi-homemade version using ALPO’s New Homestyle Prime Cuts in Gravy. I added the canned food to my food processor and pulsed it until all the meat was ground. Then I took out the wet food and put it in a large bowl. Next I added a cup of oats to my food processor and ground them into a course flour and addded them to the wet food. Next, I took a cup of rice and ground that to a flour in my food prcessor and added it to the dog food.
Then I used my hands and made a soft dough with the mixture. I then placed the dough into a bone shaped baking pan and baked these in a 350° oven for about 10 minutes.
And the verdict from Coco? Do the smell good?
Guess so he’s still wagging his tail! And do they taste good?
I think he must of likes it, because it disappeared in an instant!
He looks real happy too. ALPO can do that to him.
For this recipe I used ALPO’s Lamb and Rice flavor, but you can use any of their wet canned foods from the prime cuts or prime slices line.
Yield: Serves 8
Add canned food to food processor or blender. Blend until meat is ground. Remove and add to a large bowl.
Add oats to food processor or blender and blend until coarsely ground, add to wet food.
Add rice to food processor or blender and blend on high until a flour forms.
Mix dough with hands and shape into bone shaped baking dish. You can also roll the dough and cut it out with cookie cutters.
Bake for 350° for 10 - 15 minutes, or until set. Let cool completely before sharing with your furry friend!
Now I also spoil my big guy with wet food every few days. He loves the sound of the can opening because he knows what’s coming!
I was happy to have him try ALPO’s new Prime Cuts dog food. He loved it!
And I know what you’re thinking, he’s a lab, he’ll eat anything. And that’s true, but I can tell by the speed of his eating if he really likes something or not. And believe me he eats this food super fast!
