Easy Mini King Cakes for Mardi Gras

The Mardi Gras parades and festivities are in full swing in New Orleans. The first parade was on February 4. When we lived in Panama City, we had our own mini version of Mardi Gras. It was so much fun, and now that we live in Orlando we have a Mardi Gras celebration at Universal Studios that kicks off this weekend.

One of the funnest things I like to make every year is a King Cake. This year, I took a few shortcuts and created these super simple mini ones.

Head over to the Pillsbury website and you can find my step by step guide for how to make these Easy Mini King Cakes for Mardi Gras with photos for these mini King Cakes.

How to make the Best and Easy Mini King Cakes for Mardi Gras using Cinnamon Roll Dough

You can easily make these adorable and easy Mini King Cakes by using cinnamon roll dough.

To make mini king cake, unroll 1 cinnamon roll into a dough rope. Then just fold the rope in half lengthwise. Next, twist the dough in a spiral, and shape into a circle. Place on a lined cookie sheet. Repeat to use up rolls, placing 2 inches apart.

Then bake according to package directions, being sure to bake until dough is golden brown.

When the mini King Cakes are finished baking, ice with the icing included in the can of gough and then decorate with the different colors of sugar: purple, yellow and green.

If you are feeling extra festive, be sure to also purchase a small baby Jesus doll and hide in one of the rolls. I like to hide the baby Jesus after baking, just to make sure I don’t melt the baby!
