Now I know what your thinking, what do food and fashion have in common? Well actually, alot. Just like you pair food flavors, colors and textures, you also pair the color, texture and feel of outfits. Now fashion has never been my strong suit. We live in a very warm area, and I’m pretty much running around in shorts and t-shirts most of the year. I’ve got 2 pairs of jeans that fit, several pairs of shorts, lots of t-shirts, a few t-shirt dresses and a couple of cardigans and blazers. That’s about it. So I try to dress up these basic pieces as much as I can, without paying a ton of money for trendy items.

The collage shown above is one I made at Polyvore.com, but many of the pieces shown could be found in my closet. The basic top, the jean shorts, the blazer (these are great to dress up simple outfits, and are so slimming!) One of my favorite fashion accessories this season is scarves. They dress up the most basic jean and t-shirt outfit and make them look super cute. But it’s not always cool enough for jeans, so I still wear my shorts, but it’s January! So to pull off my shorts (and basic dresses) in the middle of winter, I go for cute and colorful tights. No nonsense tights and leggings are the perfect fashion accessory to spruce up your wardrobe. They come in a wide variety of colors, are inexpensive, and can be found at many food and drug stores, as well as larger retail chains.

Jill Martin has recently become a brand ambassador for No nonsense. She’s a fashion expert and co-author of the New York Time’s best selling style guide, “I Have Nothing to Wear!” In the video below, she tells us how to pair no nonsense colorful leggings with our basic wardrobe pieces for a fun and fresh new look.
