Healthy Families and $100 Visa Card Giveaway from Tropicana

fruit

This is a sponsored post from BlogHer and Tropicana.

Having a healthy family is very important to me, and I know the first step to our best health is with a good diet filled with lots of fruits and vegetables. However, I struggle just like everyone else, trying to eat enough fruits and vegetables, and most importantly, trying to get my family to eat enough. We start out everyday with orange juice, eggs, and whole wheat toast. We then snack on fruits, low fat cheese or yogurt as a mid morning snack. Then for lunch, I try to add at least 1 cup of fruit in with our lunch, and add some more snack-able fruit and a little dark chocolate as a mid afternoon snack. I find that sweet fruits really help to fight those 4 o’clock sugar attacks I get. At dinnertime, I always incorporate vegetables into our meals too. One easy way I do this is to offer very little meat. This way, we practically have to eat the vegetables.  And at least one night a week, we even do a meatless night.

But it’s not as easy as it sounds. My son started out as a really good eater, but like all little kids, if he thinks there’s something else in the house that he wants more, he will practically starve himself until he gets what he wants. All day, as I offer him his healthy choices, he’ll very lightly graze and pick at things. I’ll cut up apples and pears, give him little bowls of grapes or berries, and also offer him carrot and celery sticks. Sometimes he’ll eat them, and sometimes they’ll just get left for me to clean up later. Most days seem to turn into him begging to go to a fast food restaurant, especially if we’re out running errands. I’ll give in about once a week, mostly for my convenience. And when we go, I make sure he gets the fruit cup instead of the fries. Sometimes he eats it, sometimes he just picks out the grapes.
