The weekend after Thanksgiving we put up our Christmas tree and the decorations in the house. We’ve been getting a real tree since my son was born. The smell of the fresh tree fills the house and makes me feel so good. I don’t know why we had a n artificial tree for so many years. There’s something so special about a real tree that no amount of pine spray in a can sprayed into an artificial tree can replicate.
This past weekend we put up our Christmas lights outside. We just put a few lights around the house. We don’t go all out like some families do. We have a few neighbors that drape their huge old oaks in LED icicle lights. It’s the most beautiful thing. The lights gently wave in the wind with the Spanish moss.
This past weekend we also started with some holiday baking. We had a few family members over for an impromptu cookie decorating party and to discuss our holiday family trip. We take a family trip every year to go skiing. This year we’ll be in North Carolina again for a week in a cabin and I can’t wait. My daughter gets along so well with my sister-in-law, so I’m hoping I can get a few runs in before she melts down because I’m not there.
This weekend when we got together to discuss our trip, we decided to dip things in chocolate. We did pretzels, peanuts and OREOS. We’ve never done OREOS before. This was our first time. My son helped out too. I pulled our lots of Christmas cookie decorations and we had a blast. We put lollipop sticks in some double stuff OREOS and dipped them in melted chocolate. Then we added lots of pretty sprinkles.
These were so easy to make. You can use any type of Christmas candy sprinkle, gell icing or another color melted candy coating to decorate them. White chocolate would also be a good idea to coat the OREOS with too!
Yield: 12 servings, 1 cookie pop each
Insert wooden pop stick into filling in center of each cookie;place on parchment -covered baking sheet. Freeze 10 minutes.
Mix melted chocolate and oil in small bowl until blended. Dip cookies, 1 at a time, in chocolate mixture, turning to evenly coat both sides of each cookie. Return to baking sheet. Decorate as desired.
Refrigerate 30 minutes or until chocolate coating is firm.

Prepare using white baking chocolate.
When my family and I got together to make these fun OREO Cookie Pops, we also talked about our Christmas dinner menu and did a run through on how we were going to set the table. My Christmas dinner table looks pretty much like my Thanksgiving table, except I use my pink rose china. Somehow I ended up with 2 sets of china. My fist baby blue set I bought for almost nothing at a bitter newly divorced lady’s yard sale. It was her wedding china she couldn’t wait to part with it. This pink set was my grandmothers which was bought when my Grandfather was stationed in Okinawa.
I use a simple gold tone table runner and some sparkly gold placemats to accentuate the gold trim on the china.
Each place setting has a dinner plate, salad bowl, bread plate, saucer, coffee cup, and two wine glasses. Yje larger wine glass will probably be used for water. For Christmas I like to go a little fancier, so I’ll also pull out the good silver too.
Instead of a centerpiece, I just keep it simple and place a few poinsettias on the table runner with some greenery. This is a very simple and inexpensive way to decorate the dinner table.
These dishes are an antique white with rose colored roses, so I choose a napkin with a contrasting pretty green color. It’s a fun unexpected color that goes well with the tablescape, but isn’t too matchy-matchy. The gold bead napkin rings add a touch of holiday sparkle.
