Moon Pie Owl Pops

moon pie owl pops

It’s almost Halloween! I’m so excited because this is the first Halloween in our new home and I can’t wait for the cute little trick or treaters. For the previous 10 years, at our old house, we didn’t have one trick or treater. Not one. But I never gave up hope. I bought tons of candy every year, kept my porch light on, and my door open, but sadly never saw a trick or treater.

This past weekend I picked up some more cutsie Halloween decorations at Michael’s to add to my collection. I got my son a giant purple sparkly light-up spider and put it on the hedge outside. I also got some little signs and the most adorable glittery purple owl candle holder.

This cute little candle holder inspired me to make some owl themed sweets. I saw these on a site a while back. Using moon pies makes it so much easier. You don’t even have to bake, just assemble. You can find Moon Pies at southern grocery stores, Cracker Barrel, and online. You can also make these owls on chocolate frosted cupcakes or large chocolate frosted cookies.

Ingredients:

4 chocolate moon pies
1/4 cup sliced almonds
16 Oreo cookies
pre-packaged chocolate cookie frosting
pre-packaged blue cookie frosting
pre-packaged green cookie frosting
8 brown M&M's
4 pieces of candy corn
4 lollipop sticks

Directions:

Halve oreo cookies and use the side with the filling as the eye. Attach the Oreo cookie to the Moon Pie with chocolate cookie frosting. Use chocolate, green, or blue frosting for the eye and place a brown M&M on top as the pupil.

Use more chocolate frosting between the Oreo eyes and place on the almond feathers. Add additional chocolate frosting and attach the candy corn nose.

Insert the lollipop stick and allow about 1 hour for cookie frosting to harden.
