Sweet Onion Dip and How to Set a Thanksgiving Table

Thanksgiving is almost here and my family is so excited. The women in my family and myself have been planning the big day for several weeks and we just can’t wait. There’s three of us cooking, and we’ve all split the grocery list and decided who was cooking what. I love to cook with other people. It takes a lot of the stress off and makes the day so much more enjoyable and fun.

This past weekend, we had a trial run and had a pre-Thanksgiving party. It was just the girls. We got together to plan everything and had some fun snacks and a few glasses of wine. We also tried out a few of the appetizer recipes that we’d be making new this year. This Sweet Onion Dip shown is one of those recipes.

onion dip with pita crackers

This is a new recipe developed by Nabisco for the 2015 holiday season. And let me tell you it is delicious! Forget all about that silly onion dip recipe with the soup mix because this will be your new go to Onion Dip recipe from now on.

This recipe is super easy to make too. You just start by caramelizing a bunch of onions. This takes a little time, but as long as you have a glass of wine to sip during the process, it goes pretty fast. After your onions are nice and caramelized, you add a little cider vinegar and cook that off. Next you add mayo, sour cream, mustard and parsley. Just mix it up and you’re ready to go.

This dip is really good as it’s written. But if you have family member or little kids that aren’t keen on visible onions or the texture of caramelized onions, just pulse this dip in the food processor or blender a few times until it’s nice and creamy. Then they’ll never no it’s full of onions.

After we discussed all the recipes and tested our new recipes, we put together our Thanksgiving dining room table. Between the three of us, we used my antique baby blue china setting and created a fall themed table that’s casual and elegant.

For the center-piece, we chose a large grapevine pumpkin. This worked well with the small decorator balls I already had that usually sit in a large bowl on the table. Next we choose a simple gold table runner. This works well with the cherry dining room set, as well as the gold accents already in the dining room.

For the placemats, we chose a simple cool beige. This neutral color works well with the rest of the table and makes the pretty china really pop.

The napkins are a pretty deeper blue that work well with the season as well as tie in the blue from the dishes.

To accent these pretty napkins, I added a big pretty fall flower napkin ring. You can buy napkin rings like this pre-made or simply create your own with a bouquet of silk flowers that you cut and form the rings yourself.

This is the easiest way that I like to set a table for the holidays or a dinner party. I start with my dinner plate, then add a salad plate. To the left I have my bread plate topped with a saucer and the after dinner coffee or tea cup. To the right I just have one wine glass.
