I absolutely love the first part of the year. January is a time of hope, new plans and change. It’s a time to take a look back over the previous year, reflect, remember and sometimes re-evaluate. For our family, I realized during this reflection that we need to re-evaluate our family morning routine.
Mornings set the tone for your whole day, and we’re not doing nearly as well as we should. Our mornings as a family have become so busy and often times turn into a frantic chaotic hot mess looking for lost homework, shoes and school books that seem to have grown legs and wondered off in the middle of the night.
In an effort to help our mornings run smoother, I’ve made a list of things we can do as a family to help save time in the morning. This way we can spend mornings enjoying peaceful family breakfasts instead of frantically searching for lost and misplaced things.
My first plan to help us achieve our goal of peaceful mornings is to take 15-20 minutes everyday and clean out and organize a cabinet, drawer or other messy spot in our home. For instance, yesterday we did the kitchen junk drawer. Today I’m doing a drawer in my desk. I know having a more organized home will really help save valuable time during the day. That way we can spend more time with each other, and less time running around the house, trying to find all the lost things.
My second new rule for everyone will be to gather backpacks, homework, shoes, coats, sports equipment for practices and whatever else the kids may need and place them by the door the night before. That way there will hopefully be no lost items 5 minutes before it’s time to get in the car before school.
The third way I plan to save time, is to make snacks and lunches the night before for everyone in the family. Mornings can be so very chaotic, but with a little planning the night before I know it can go a little smoother. My hope is that by saving time with getting everything together the night before, we can have more time for a relaxing sit down family breakfast before our busy days begin.
When preparing for the following day, I need to not only make lunches, morning snacks and water bottles, but most days we also need to pack after-school afternoon snacks as well. My son has practices several days a week where we have to leave straight from the school and go to football practice.
This year I’ve found a great simple on the go snack that’s perfect for his lunchbox as well as that car ride from school to wherever we need to be. It’s Jif® Power Ups™ and they make a wonderful snack for not only my son, but me too! I pack a Jif Power Ups along with a piece of fresh fruit like an apple or banana along with a water or sports drink.
Jif Power Ups are an energizing snack, perfect for refueling kids before after school activities. The flavors are also very much kid friendly. My son has tried and absolutely loves every flavor. Whether it’s going to sport practices or just coming home to play, Jif Power Ups are a nourishing and filling snack that both kids and parents will love.
Kids and parents never seem to be able to agree on snacks. With Jif Power Ups, parents and kids can agree. They are a win-win snacking solution for everyone.
I get Jif Power Ups at my local Publix, along with all my other groceries for the week.
Jif Power Ups come in two delicious forms – Jif Power Ups Creamy Clusters and Jif Power Ups Chewy Bars. Both products have peanuts as the first ingredient and no added corn syrup. They also provide a good balance of protein, fiber and good fats.
