Christmas Tree Cupcakes
I found this cupcake idea recently in Baking with the Cake Boss. Isn’t it adorable? I had to go to the craft store to get the leaf piping tip, but it was well worth it. My son went crazy for these. The only thing I’ll do different next time I make theses is to add a fondant star to the top.
This recipe developed for Babble’s Family Kitchen.
Yield: Serves 4
Christmas Tree Cupcakes
Ingredients:
Cake mix, made according to package directions for cupcakes
Christmas cupcake liners
Buttercream frosting
- 2 sticks butter, softened
- 1 cup vegetable shortening
- 2 lbs powdered sugar
- 3 – 4 tablespoons milk
- green gel food coloring
Christmas candy sprinkles
Pre-made writing frosting in yellow and red
Directions:
Make and bake cupcakes according to package directions. Let cool completely.
Make buttercream by adding butter, shortening and sugar to stand mixer. Mix on medium until well-incorporated. Add milk, a little at a time, and whip until light and fluffy. Add 1 cup white buttercream to a parchment bag with a medium round tip (#12 plain tip).
Add green food coloring to the rest of the buttercream and mix well until deep green. Add green frosting to a parchment bag with a #69 leaf tip.
To frost cupcakes:
Take the white buttercream and make a circle on the cupcake. Sprinkle with, or dip in, Christmas sprinkles. Then take the white buttercream and form a cone with the frosting in the middle of the cupcake.
Take the green buttercream with the leaf tip and add leaves all around the white cone shaped frosting. Use the yellow writing frosting and add a dot to the top of the tree. Add a few dots of yellow and red frosting around the tree.
Add sprinkles to the top of the tree.
