Florida Prepaid Open Enrollment is Here!

open enrôlement is here

Open enrollment for Florida Pre-paid is here! This is the only time of year that Floridians can purchase Prepaid Plans. Don’t wait, head over to MyFLoridaPrepaid.com and go ahead and set up a college savings account for your child or grandchild. It’s never too early  to start saving.

Florida Prepaid is an amazing plan that helps Florida parents pre-pay for their kids education. It’s a great alternative to traditional college savings plan in that it is guaranteed by the state of Florida and financially sound. Plan payments are locked in and can never increase. More than 450,000 students have went to college using Prepaid Plan benefits.

I started my son’s plan when he was a baby with Florida prepaid, and I’ve started a plan with my daughter too. It’s such a great program that’s been around for quite a while now, since 1988. In fact, it’s the longest-running and most successful prepaid program in the nation.

It’s super affordable too, you can pay for just a year at a time, and monthly installments start at just around $50 a month. There’s avariety of different plans whre you can pay for 1,2,3 or 4 years of college. You can also pay for a year, have each set of grandparents pay for a year and another faily member pay for the fouth year. Each family member will have their own login information and payment details. They make it so easy!

Many people think that if you get a scholarship, they may lose those plan savings, but that’s not true. It is pretty easy to get an academic scholarship here in the state of Florida, but you absolutely would never lose your Florida Prepaid Savings! If there is surplus money after scholarships and Prepaid monies, you can absolutely request a refund, or transfer those funds to another family member.

Another common myth is that Florida Prepaid can only be used in state. And while this is true of Florida academic scholarships, it’s not with Prepaid plans. Those monies can be applied to public, private, in-state and out-of-state institutions nationwide. And your child won’t be penalized for not going to college immediately after high school either. Prepaid students actually have 10 years from high school graduation to use their funds.

In addition to the Florida prepaid, you may also be interested in the Florida 529 Savings Plan. Since Florida pre-paid is only a 4-year plan tuition plan, families can definitely open an additional 529 plan to help with room and board expenses plus graduate or doctoral programs for their children.

With 529 savings plans families can choose investment options, from more aggressive to more conservative options. There’s also no payment schedule, so you can contribute what you want, when you want. Enrollment in the 529 Savings Plan is open year-round.
